COMEDY: Russell Brand, Apollo, Saturday

CHARISMATIC show–off Russell Brand is one of the most in-demand performers and he is coming to Manchester as part of his stand-up tour.
Russell has a infamous and poetic way with words that woos his audiences and his show, Doing Life, will contain material from local news.
“I’ll be doing a lot of research and making a lot of inquiries about every town where I’m performing, so every show will have a unique feel to it,” he said.
He will be broadening his stage agenda in this show with more abstract ideas and talk of revolution, but most of Brand’s material is taken from his own life experience.
“The process I always undergo whenever anything embarrassing has happened to me is ‘no-one must ever know about this’, swiftly followed by ‘this is material, I must tell everyone’,” he said.
Russell’s exploits are often splashed over the press and his act plays with the theme that the media can distort people’s personalities. His audience appeal comes from the vulnerability Brand shows on stage about his own media portrayal. He said: “People who only know me from the tabloids think I’m a swashbuckling, womanising twit. But actually, I’m just a fragile, insecure man trying to make his way through life.”
But it is Russell’s off-the-cuff whirlwind material, characteristic all-black clothing and backcombed hairdo that have made him the personality he is today, with successful TV shows such as Big Brother’s Big Mouth under his belt, a column in the Guardian and a slot as a Radio 2 host.
