CHILDREN: Thomas the Tank Engine, Opera House, until 29 April
Angela Kelly24/ 4/2008
ALL aboard – Thomas the Tank Engine and friends are chugging into town to enthral young fans with their latest musical stage show.
The Opera House is the venue for Thomas & Friends Live on stage – a brand-new 90-minute show starring all the favourites like Percy and Diesel, the Fat Controller and the residents of the magical island of Sodor.
Ever since the TV series burst on to British screens in 1984, introducing the much-loved characters of the Rev Wilbert Awdry’s children’s books to new generations, Thomas and his cast of steamy engines and human pals have delighted youngsters.
In recent times the stage show has passed into the Thomas mythology as a special visit for children and adults alike.
Anyone with an imagination and a warmth for these quirky characters can share this new story about discovery, friendship and co-operation as they all work together as Really Useful Engines to get the railway ready for Sodor’s Magic Lantern Festival.
There are new railway-themed songs as well as classic singalongs like Roll Call and Good Morning in this heartwarming production, with performances at 11am, 2pm and 5pm. To book tickets, priced £10 to £19.50, ring 0844 847 2328 or visit www.manchesteroperahouse.org.uk.
