THEATRE: Celebrating Linda Smith, Library Theatre, Saturday

29/ 4/2008

THE life and work of the late, much-loved comedienne Linda Smith is in the spotlight at a special event at Manchester’s Library Theatre on Saturday.

Linda, a writer and broadcaster, was the staple of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and a favourite of BBC radio listeners who voted her Wittiest Person in 2002.

She made frequent appearances on Just A Minute and I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue as well as TV shows Have I Got News For You, Room 101 and Mock The Week. Linda died in February, 2006, of ovarian cancer.

Celebrating Linda Smith is a night of comedy, words and music, co-ordinated by Warren Lakin – Linda’s partner of 23 years. It is adapted from Warren’s biography Driving Miss Smith, and directed by two of Linda’s closest friends from her theatre days in Sheffield, Mike McCarthy and Kate Rutter.

The show also features audio and video clips from some of Linda’s TV and radio appearances over the years. There will be special guests, including jazz singer Barb Jungr, performing a selection of songs from her new album, Do It Right Woman – Hymn to Nina, which is her homage to the great Nina Simone. For tickets ring 0161 236 7110.
