THEATRE: The 39 Steps, Lowry, from Tuesday 3 June

Angela Kelly
28/ 5/2008

FOUR actors play 130 roles in 100 minutes in a production of The 39 Steps guaranteed to have audiences gripping their seat – with mirth.

Maria Aitken’s critically acclaimed production of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic 1935 spy thriller will be hilariously recreated at The Lowry next week.

It’s been adapted for the stage by Patrick Barlow and is currently one of the West End’s must-see shows, winning an Olivier Award for Best New Comedy.

This fast-paced spy adventure is suitable for all the family. The fearless four actors – David Michaels, Clare Swinburne, Alan Perrin and Colin Mace – will perform every single legendary scene from the movie, including the chase on the Flying Scotsman, the first theatrical bi-plane crash ever staged and the sensational death defying finale in the London Palladium.

This inventive comedy follows the adventures of hero Richard Hannay, with British gung-ho, dastardly murders and secret agents.

For tickets, priced £10 to 21.50, ring 0870 787 5793 or visit www.thelowry.com.
