MUSICAL: Oliver!, Palace Theatre, Fri 15 and Sat 16 Aug

TRAINER-clad teens have been transformed into street urchins for the Palace Theatre’s new production of Oliver!

The show, based on Charles Dickens’ novel Oliver Twist, is the culmination of the venue’s annual Stage Experience workshop, in which 200 people aged 10 to 21 took the roles of actors, wardrobe and backstage crew to showcase the rags to riches tale.

Featuring all of the book’s most memorable characters, from crook Fagin to kindly Cockney Nancy, it’s sure to be a heartwarming affair bringing the colour and squalor of Victorian London vividly to life.

Orphaned Oliver Twist is sent at the age of nine to earn a living toiling in the dreadful environment of a workhouse.

After bravely demanding more gruel to feed his fellow orphans, he is sold to the services of nasty undertaker Mr Sowerberry before running away to seek his fortune on the capital’s violent streets.

Whilst in London Oliver befriends the mischievous Artful Dodger and the mysterious pick-pocket Fagin who lead him into a dangerous world of crime and deception…

Oliver! features the classic songs Food Glorious Food, Consider Yourself, I’d do Anything and Oom Pah Pah.
