MANCHESTER'S third Kurdish Film Festival will open this weekend bigger and better.
The event – previously known as Zamawhand – comprises five intensive days of screenings, seminars and other special events from Saturday to Wednesday, held at Contact Theatre in Devas Street and at the Odeon Printworks.
This year’s festival includes six feature films, 15 documentaries and more than 50 short films, blended with question and answer sessions and film making workshops, all delivered by industry professionals.
The festival was created in 2005 to provide a place where the north-west’s Kurdish residents could come together to celebrate their native culture and introduce it to a wider audience. It has since expanded to include a mixture of international work from throughout the Kurdish Diaspora and locally produced work by Kurdish refugees in the north-west – many of them making their their debut as film makers.
