COMEDY: Frank Sidebottom, Manchester Academy, Friday 26 Sep

THE north-west’s favourite big head, Frank Sidebottom, should please his many fans with an appearance at Manchester Academy next Friday.
Frank, alias comedian and musician Chris Sievey, is instantly recognisable from the spherical papier mache head he wears, usually with a sharp, vaguely Fifties-style suit.
The central conceit behind Frank is that he’s an aspiring pop star from Timperley and, although seemingly middle-aged, still lives at home with his mother. Frank Sidebottom has spawned a legion of fans since he reached cult status in the late Eighties and early Nineties.
He will be joined on the bill by Charlie Chuck, an equally quirky character who lives on a farm with a one eyed dog, a pig and a donkey.
His act and catchphrases have become legendary after stints on Vic and Bob’s The Smell of Reeves & Mortimer and the James Whale radio and TV shows.
