Fake New Year's Eve

THERE'S only one thing wrong with New Year's Eve - the fact it's on December 31.

The idea of seeing in the New Year in a lively bar surrounded by friends starts to lose its charm when you realise the entire population of Manchester has had the same idea.

Greedy landlords forcing you to pay through the nose to get into the pub you drink in for free the rest of the year, having to fight to the death for overpriced cabs, and facing a desperate search to get a babysitter - when you weigh it up, a night in with a bottle of wine and Jools Holland seems a far more attractive prospect.

But one enterprising venue has come up with the perfect solution to all this.

The Frog and Bucket comedy club on Oldham Street has put together I Can't Believe It's Not New Year's Eve - all the fun of going out on New Year's Eve with none of the hassle.

The simple answer is of course - do it all the night before.

There'll be a full comedy show featuring Smug Roberts, Mike Wilkinson, Jonathan Mayor and guest comics, a disco, and even a fake midnight count-down.

Then you can go out into the deserted streets and climb into a nice normally priced taxi, after finding a number of grateful cabbies fighting for your attention.

And, the best part of all, you can stay in the following night laughing smugly at all the fools who have gone out to face one of the most disappointing nights of their year - thinking you're the boring one.
