White out of order

IN No Particular Order is the first solo exhibition in the UK by artist Pae White. It features cascading waterfalls of multi-coloured paper hanging from hundreds of nylon threads; delicate wire birdcages suspended above pools of coloured light and 21st century tapestries.

The Californian's work shifts across different genres and media, from fine art and product design to urban planning, architecture, typography and graphics.

The exhibition - which will run at Manchester Art Gallery from tomorrow (July 1) until September 3 - will feature three of her mobile sculptures, Chartwell, Chocolate Mint Almost and her new work Overneath.

It has shapes cut from silk-screened paper that hang from the nylon threads and perpetually flicker, tantalising the viewer.

The intricately-designed wire birdcages also hang from the ceiling, amid reflecting pools of light of the Perspex sculpture Copy Cat Lap.

And her three large-scale tapestries on display capture White's interest in the disposable, featuring images of crumpled tin foil that have been scanned and translated into the tapestries.

The exhibition - which has been organised by the Milton Keynes Gallery with support from the Henry Moore Foundation - will also feature other drawings, posters and a display of collaborative artists' books.
