Mrs Brunel

NOT many theatre companies tour the country by barge... but one that does is appearing in Salford on Sunday in a visit that's likely to prove popular with land-locked drama fans.

The Mikron Theatre Touring Company travels the UK in its faithful barge "Tyseley", bringing theatre to rural communities and encouraging people to learn new, arts-based skills.

Understandably, they frequently use riverside and canal pubs and restaurants to stage plays but this time it's the Working Class Movement Library on The Crescent in Salford which will provide the dramatic backdrop.

This visit involves two entirely new plays. The first investigates the life and times of the great Victorian engineer, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, through the eyes of his wife, Mary Horsley. And the second explores the history, secrets and intrigue of a boat-building yard. Curtain up is 2pm, for ticket details ring 01484 843701.
