Don't duck out of tests
By Angela Kelly26/10/2006
URMSTON woman Val Campbell is the public face of a national
campaign to encourage more women to take up breast screening
appointments.
Val, 39, was diagnosed with breast cancer in October, 2004.
Pictured in a bath surrounded by pink and white rubber ducks, her
aim is to urge women not to "duck out" of the tests. The rubber
ducks are being sold in Cancer Research UK shops around the country
at £4.99 each.
Val, who has two children and is the store manager of Bay Trading
Company in Manchester's Arndale Centre, has recently undergone
reconstructive surgery after losing her left breast.
She lost her best friend to the cancer and said: "I hope this
campaign will catch other women's attention and make them think
twice about screening."
Lesley Walker, director of cancer information at the national
charity, added: "Relaxing in the bath is an ideal time for women to
notice any abnormal change in either breast.
"It's very important women know what's normal for them, and
bath-time is a great time to look for any changes."
