Armed raid forces ID clampdown at building society

Alex Scapens
5/ 3/2008

CUSTOMERS at a Bramhall building society must now show ID at the door before being allowed in, after a machete-wielding armed gang escaped with £15,000.

A closed door policy at the Britannia, on Bramhall Lane, means anyone wishing to deposit or withdraw money - whatever their age or position - has to bring their passbook or card.

The closed door policy obviously worked! Three raiders tried to get into the Britannia BS on the morning of Thurs 27 March, but couldn't get inside as the door was locked. One of them hit the door several times in an attempt to break it - without success. They fled empty handed. Well done to the Britannia!
