What a load of rubbish
19/ 3/2008
ANGRY residents and business people have hit out at gypsies who have left a huge mess in Lancashire Hill - and then moved on to the town centre.
More than 20 caravans parked on Penny Lane were moved on over the weekend, after the council gained a court order to secure the site.
thing,s have gone full circle ,thats the same thing they did 40 years ago in the same place ,, I remember they did house calls and if you didnt buy a rabbits foot or whatever , you were cursed !! these are probably the kin folk ,,, all I can say is GET A JOB ,,

Its disgusting and gives a bad name to the travellers out there who clean up after themselves and have respect for their surroundings and neighbours! I have stayed on several sites all over the country, and the travellers I know always make sure they leave the area how they found it. Unfortunately, the few that make this mess probably will never change as they just don't give a damn.

I am very much against the idea of dedication of land in the area to travellers. I cant help but feel it will be more trouble than it is worth. It is likely to lead to a no go area.

To a large extent, gypsies/tinkers/travellers/whatever are largely above/beyond the law. They are of no fixed aboad, have no tangible assets and are a permanent liability to the welfare state. Ask any experienced rozzer.
I suspect that I would find David Cooper's solution rather attractive.

I understand that SMBC are looking into the possibility of providing a permanent site for the travellers. Well, providing that they pay income tax and national insurance like all other employed person in Stockport ... and ... providing that they pay tipping fees like every other business in Stockport ... and ... providing that they pay council tax and water rates like every other resident in Stockport, then I suppose we would be hard pressed to object, but of course that will never happen!
No doubt SMBC will provide a permanent site for them as they did many years ago in Portwood. Older readers will probably remember that they trashed that as well!

THEY NEED TO STOP SOMEWHERE BUT DON,T HELP THEMSELVES, BY LEAVING SUCH A MESS, THE COUNCIL SHOULS OF FOUND THEM PLACES TO STOP LONG AGO, AND THEY SHOULD BE PROSICUTED FOR THE MESS WE WOULD BE, THEY ARE NOT ABOVE THE LAW ..

Gypsies have been moved on following legal action at the expense of Council Tax payers. Their rubbish is to be cleared away at Council Tax payers' expense. And the Council is to commission an assessment of gypsies' needs - no prize for guessing who will foot the bill for that one.
I could save the Council some money, but I don't think the world is quite ready for my views.

Should less emphasis be placed on the results of tests and more emphasis on general education for children?
