Is pub confused over identity..?

26/ 3/2008

YOU might be forgiven for thinking that Cosmopolitan is a strange choice of name for a pub with this sign on its walls. But you’d be wrong.

The new Heaton Norris venue is gay-owned and gay-friendly, but just making the point it isn’t exclusive.

Why don't we have just pubs? Do they have to be gay or straight? What would happen if we had a white pub or a black pub? Facilities are for everyone to use lawfully regardless of colour, beliefs or sexuality. Apart from that,in many areas now,the age of the pub is finished. Many are being boarded up because they are no longer desireable places for ordinary people to go ,,i.e they are often centres for crime, the likelihood of a good kicking or else a chavs social club.

Its about time someone had some thought for retaining the historic names of pubs instead of re-naming them on any passing trendy whim.

Was the concern that retaining the "Three Crowns" would acquire it a nickname of, say, the "Three Queens"?
