Stepping Hill doctor resigns over £85,000 scam
Alex Scapens14/ 5/2008
ONE of Stepping Hill’s top consultants has been branded a "dishonest" doctor and resigned in disgrace after he ripped off at least £85,000 in a three-year medical scam.
Navneet Ahluwalia, lead clinician at the gastroenterology department, carried out standard exploratory operations on patients as part of his private practice in Cheadle - but billed health insurance companies for more expensive ones.
i have been seeing Dr Ahluwalia for 6 years, i have found him to be caring and a superb Dr in his field. i will miss him and look forward to him being reinstated, because i for one will, if at all possible continue to use and trust him.

The treatment given to a member of our family by Dr. A. was extremely unsatisfactory. This was also the opinion of other patients we talked to. In fact his lack of attention to patient care was commented upon by the Stockport Coroner and indirectly admitted by Stepping Hill Hospital. Where money grabbing is the object, patient care will suffers, even if only due to shortage of funds. I fail to see why someone who steals that amount of money, and the character it betrays, should ever be allowed to work as a doctor in this country ever again.

I have had the pleasure of being treated by Dr Ahluwalia for several years now, and never before have I encountered such a dedicated, skillful and caring physician. Anyone that knows Dr Ahluwalia knows he is an honest man and it is very upsetting for someone who has worked so hard to be disregarded over what was clearly a misunderstanding. Speaking on behalf of many of his patients, the medical world has suffered a great loss, and we eagerly anticipate his return.
