Spectacular start to next 100 years
16/ 7/2008
A SPECTACULAR firework display signalled the start of the next century for Stockport’s iconic Town Hall this week.
The colourful display on Sunday night was the finale to a series of special events which included a Mad Hatter's Tea Party, a silent film evening with wurlitzer accompaniment, a special centenary concert involving Stockport Symphony Orchestra with organist Nigel Ogden and a tea dance.
Fantastic evening of entertainment, particular highlights were the ABBA, Blues Brothers and Beatles tributes, all compared by the underrated Barbara Nice.
One question though, where were all our councillors?

Got an opinion you want to share?
Thousands of pounds of ratepayers cash go up in smoke because that old monstrosity is 100 years old? All that entertainment and free trough to boot?
Any reason for a joll hey councillors? As long as it's not you picking up the tab!
It's about time you incompetant bufoons at the council start concentrating your minds on saving ratepayers money instead of lavishing it up.
How much have your planning dept lost this year? What heads have rolled and jobs been lost? No answers as usual I suppose.
