Poynton's St George cross stays

30/ 7/2008

THE Cross of St George will remain above Poynton Civic Hall - despite calls for it to be scrapped in favour of the Union Flag.

The issue was raised at the Parks, Buildings and Highways Committee meeting of the Poynton With Worth Parish Council, held last week, where it was decided to replace the hall’s flag - at a cost of around £50 - because according to some ‘it was beginning to look old and tatty’.

Cllr. Murray's comment that the British National Party has "taken over" the Cross of St. George is not only ridiculous, it's absurd. If anything, the British National Party has rescued the flag from the gutter where it was thrown out by successive governments. Many members of the party are ex-servicemen who fought under the flag to save this great nation from the tyranny of Hitler. We are not 'far right', just 'right'. If it wasn't for those brave soldiers the Swastika would be flying over Poynton Civic Hall. Think about that Cllr. Murray before you sully the memory of our brave men and women.    The flag of St George is the English flag and should be flown in England. It is the Union flag which is the symbol of the far right BRITISH National Party. Councillors should know this! Why do they continue to peddle this mis-information?

The English flag has nothing to do with the BNP it is the flag of England...well done Poynton for standing up to this PC rubbish. We have a British political class in this country that are trying their best to eradicate all that is English. Our politicians are letting us down badly....where are the English MP's who will stand up and speak for the people of England...Keep England in Your Heart!

I think the local Council have failed to notice that the BNP's logo is made up of the Union Flag!

Its a fact that the BNP uses all of the national flags of the UK in its various publications. I don't really see what this has to do with a flag outside the Council though - this is a non issue.
