YEAR 11 boys from Hazel Grove High voted to wear formal dinner jackets to their school prom for the first time this year.
Male students traditionally turned up in smart casual gear for their end of term function until this year, when they decided to opt for dinner jackets or dress suits instead.
Around 150 school leavers sat down to a formal meal at the
Village Hotel in Cheadle, followed by a disco.
Year 11 head Julie Johnson was full of praise for the 16 year olds,
most of whom plan to continue their education at local
colleges.
"They've been tremendous fun and I've been very proud of the way they have got involved in all sorts of supportive roles with the younger students," she said.
"They've done themselves proud. They've been a year who've given a tremendous amount to things like music in the school, the band and orchestra and choir and all the drama productions.
"They've really been involved with everything that has been offered to them and volunteer in large numbers.
"They've also been very good in the sporting field, winning quite a lot of trophies for a wide variety of sports."
Many of the youngsters will meet up again at the school when they return to pick up their GCSE results on August 22.
