Harrytown School

14/10/2002

HARRYTOWN'S school leavers were stepping out in style at a sophisticated end-of-year party at the Palace Hotel.

The evening began at school where coaches were waiting to take the glamorous looking youngsters into town. The girls wore elegant gowns while the boys donned suave dinner jackets and suits.

Half a dozen limousines were hired by those who wanted to arrive in style.

Once at the swish hotel on Manchester's Oxford Road, the 147 staff and pupils sat down to dinner and afterwards were entertained by an 'awards ceremony', organised secretly by Head Boy Ryan Ward and Head Girl Olivia Day.

Certificates were handed out for achievements and there were some fun prizes like the 'Posh and Becks' award for best couple.

It was then time to hit the dancefloor with ex-pupil Chris O'Reilly as their DJ for the night.

As Head of Year 11 Jenny Rawlings had seen the youngsters through their five years at the school.

She said: "This was a wonderful way to end that, since finishing they've been popping back and it's always lovely to know how they are going on."

Mrs Rawlings added: "It was a special night to remember".

She thanked Ryan, Olivia, Deputy Head Boy Jonathan White, Deputy Head Girl Helen Bennison and all the prefects for their invaluable help in organising the evening.
