Girl, 4, bites into human tooth

A FOUR-YEAR-OLD girl had a nasty surprise when she bit into a pasty with a bite of its own.

Lana Coates, pictured, was chomping on the peppered steak pie from Morrisons in Cheadle Heath when she spat a tooth out onto her plate.

Her mum and dad, Natalie Birch and Gary Coates, thought a quick trip to the dentist might be in order for the youngster - but when they examined the tooth more closely, they were horrified to see it was a rotten, broken adult tooth which had been buried within the filling.

"It was all yellow and disgusting and only half of one, so someone, somewhere has probably got the other half," the appaled mum said.

"I thought it was a piece of gristle at first but when I looked and washed it off I realised it was a tooth. Then I thought it was Lana’s but I looked again and realised it couldn’t be hers because it was too big."

Natalie, 25, said although Lana wasn’t too upset by the episode, she and Gary had been left with a nasty taste in the mouth.

"Every time I go to buy something like that I keep thinking about it, as it was just so horrible," she said.

"It’s the fact that my daughter was eating it, we don’t know where it’s come from, and if she’d swallowed it we don’t know what would have happened."

Natalie, who bought the pasty on August 9, said she has contacted the manager of the store about the tooth and he informed her a full investigation would be launched.

The mum-of-one, who lives on Norwell Road, near Gatley has also contacted Environmental Health officers and is awaiting results of the investigation.

A spokeswoman for Morrisons said: "This matter is being taken seriously. It is understood that the customer has contacted Environmental Health and we are co-operating fully with them."
