A "LOVING" elderly woman has died almost a week after a multi-car accident near her home.

Emily Lightbody, aged 94, of Marple, was driving to the shops in her Nissan Micra when it collided with a Renault Clio and a Mitsubishi Shogun on Strines Road on September 18 just before 10.15am.

She suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Stepping Hill Hospital where she died on Monday morning (September 24).

Emily, of Strines Road, was known to friends as Molly and is believed to have only used her car twice a week to visit the shops.

Her close friend and next door neighbour Sarah Smith said in tribute: "Molly was a dear and loving friend who used to enjoy socialising with friends and neighbours.

"She was a real lady and will be very sadly missed."

Emily, who lived on her own, had no children but some family in Chichester, West Sussex.
