Schools harvest spirit of giving aplenty

STOCKPORT schools scattered the grain of goodwill over the Harvest Festival period.

Hundreds of pupils and parents provided all manner of edible offerings for good causes in the borough.

Thousands of cans, packets, bags and boxes of food from processed peas to premium pate were gathered up and scattered around the community to the homeless, elderly and vulnerable.

Stockport’s Wellspring is a resource centre for homeless and disadvantaged people, open every day of the year and reliant upon donations.

The charity was inundated with donations from around the area this year.

Manager Jonathan Billings said: “It wasn’t just hundreds of cans and packets we got this year - it was thousands.

“The schools and churches of Stockport have kept us in business for at least another year, and that’s serving 100 people a day.

“We’d like to thank everyone involved.”
