FORMER managing director of Stockport County Keith Agar
Former County boss to sue club
Miles Skinner31/10/2007
STOCKPORT County’s former boss is suing the club for £20,000.
Keith Agar, who quit as managing director last December, has instructed his solicitors to take the Trust to court for ‘outstanding monies’.
The disgruntled 60-year-old claims he was forced to leave after directors undermined his position, and insists the Trust has not made good on £8,000 they promised him in September as part of a relocation package.
He is also after £5,000 for paid holiday and a further £7,000 in car allowance.
Club officials however, have rubbished Mr Agar’s claims and say County does not owe him a living.
Mr Agar was given over £20,000 by the Trust in April, some of which he spent on a world tour.
"This is nothing I am not entitled to," he said. "And frankly I would have been happy to settle out of court. "But you get more and more annoyed and it becomes a matter of principle."
Mr Agar also criticised the Trust for ‘disregarding a contract they had entered into’.
The surprise resignation before last Christmas was, he claims, inevitable, after County directors Mark Maguire and Dan Levy organised a meeting with the owner of the club’s football ground, Brian Kennedy, without him.
MD Mark Maguire, however, has poured scorn on his former colleague’s claims.
"We are absolutely delighted that Mr Agar has made public his manoeuvring behind the scenes," he said. "Having been employed for a period of just a year it appears that he feels he is owed a living by us, this despite some regrettable management issues during his tenure.
"After his departure in January Mr Agar was paid a significant amount of money, his notice period in full," he insisted
"He has claimed £8,000 in relocation expenses despite never relocating," claimed Mr Maguire. "In addition he claims car expenses for a car and holiday pay which we dispute he is entitled to."
Mr Maguire added: "We will fight to defend Stockport County’s position, and are frankly appalled that Mr Agar continues to attempt to damage the club he claimed to love despite such a short relationship."
