I’ll see you in court!

A FED-UP Reddish driver says he would rather go to jail than pay parking tickets for leaving his car outside his home.

Alan Lynch, 49, of Rupert Street, has been fined twice in the last month because of Stockport Council restrictions on his road and told he must pay.

The regulations state cars must only stay 60 minutes and can’t return within two hours between 7.30am and 6.30pm on Monday-Friday.

While most resident are at work, cabbie Alan works the night shift and has been left with a bill of up to £150 a week to park outside his front door.

He said: "I am really angry, they could fine me £1million and wouldn’t care. I’d rather be incarcerated than pay up.

"I’m stressed and not sleeping properly, I wake up wondering if I’ve got another ticket. Each one is £30 so how am I supposed to pay them on top of normal bills.

"My car is not causing an obstruction and there has never been a problem with too many cars parking here so why is there a need for these rules. I’m not even allowed a permit to say I live here and am exempt."

Signs giving details of the restrictions first appeared about two years ago. Alan, who lives with his son Joel, 21, was given a ticket almost immediately but says he persuaded the Council to revoke it.

And since then he had not had a problem - until three weeks ago when his car was ticketed. Last week it happened for a second time.

If the tickets are not paid within two weeks, the fine increases to £60.

A spokesman for Stockport Council said: "The Council has been in contact with Mr Lynch and, given the nature of the street, it may be possible to revoke a small section of the traffic regulation order near his home, which would allow unrestricted parking.

"This proposal is going to be considered by the area committee later this month. In terms of the fixed penalty notices, the current traffic regulation order stands.

"Mr Lynch has the right to appeal but the Council will only cease enforcement if the new regulations are put in place."

He may own his home or at least live there but he doesnt own the street. Presumably there are good reasons for the parking restrictions in that area? If those reasons are still valid then i suggest he parks somewhere else.

That's absolutely ridiculous! And the problem is, if the restirction is lifted on just a section fo the road everyone will try to park there instead and this gentleman may still have to park in a section where he is liable to be fined.
