Masked man in snatch bid for teen girl

POLICE are investigating allegations that a masked man attempted to grab a Marple teenager.

The man may have been watching the girl previously and she has told officers he was wearing a balaclava and gloves when he approached her on Monday evening.

The 13-year-old has told police she was walking home along Edwards Way when the man got out of a dark-coloured car, possibly a Volkswagen Golf, walked up to her and said: "You’ve changed since yesterday."

His comment unnerved the youngster and she tried to walk away, but she says he grabbed her by the arm. She managed to wriggle free and ran off and was left upset, but uninjured, by the incident.

The attempted snatch has brought back bad memories for another Edwards Way resident, who said a similar incident happened to his daughter a few years ago.

"A man tried to get my daughter and her friend to get in a car with him," he said.

"She was about seven at the time and was playing out just up the road.

"We called the police who came and took a statement but I don’t know if they ever caught him.

"We warn our kids about this kind of thing all the time. They know there are bad people about and if anything happens they should come straight home," he told us.

Det Sgt Neil Coup, of Stockport CID, said: "The girl has been left understandably upset by this incident.

"His comment about seeing her the previous day has upset her and is a worrying sign that he may have been watching her.

"We don’t want to alarm anyone but this man is potentially dangerous and we need to catch him."

The incident happened between 6.30pm and 6.50pm. Anyone who witnessed the incident or saw a car fitting the description in the area at the time is asked to call Stockport CID on 856 9755 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

   I hope he's caught too - "he's a very naughty boy".

A very worrying incident, there will soon come a time when parents will be too scared to let their children out of their sight at all. I hope this man is caught.
