What’s this all a-sprout then...?

"EVERY little helps," the adverts say.

And Stockport shopper Howard Cooper is the last person who’d accuse Tesco of not sticking to exactly that ethos - after they sent him one solitary sprout in a bag.

Neatly packaged, weighed and priced, the brussels blunder arrived with the rest of his online order, clearly the result of a typo.

But page-planner Howard and his girlfriend Terrie were left wondering how diligent was the packer who located them their lonely 0.01kg treat.

"Obviously it was my mistake, but we were rolling on the floor thinking that someone must have sifted through a load of sprouts to get the right weight - perhaps even peeled a few leaves off.

"It’s certainly good customer service in one way, and only a penny.

"But to be honest, you’d have thought that someone would realise it was a mistake and called to check - I don’t think hamsters are yet able to order on the internet."

Luckily the Cale Green couple were not planning a sprout-based feast over the weekend, and Howard can take the controversial vegetables or leaf them!

"But Terrie loves her sprouts," he said.

"She’s planning to find our smallest egg cup and make a real meal of it."

Howard added that the Portwood store’s delivery service had been ‘spot-on’ in every other respect.

A Tesco spokesman said: "At Tesco we always strive to give our customers exactly what they want.

"Sprouts may not be to everyone’s liking but we suggest that in future Mr Cooper orders a few more to get the full nutritional value of the veg."
