Taking it in his stride... once again
26/ 3/2008
A STOCKPORT man, who last year took eight days to slow motion walk the London Marathon, will attempt to break his own record this year by slo–mo dancing.
Greg Billingham of Bramhall will bump, break dance, and boogie–woogie his way around the 26.2 mile race in aid of Get Kids Going.
The father–of–one hopes to raise a massive £2 million for the charity, which gives disabled children the chance to take part in sport.
But his eccentric fundraising efforts don’t stop at the marathon.
Greg, 40, has exclusively revealed to the Stockport Express that he is venturing into the music industry and will release a single to go with his slo–mo dancing.
The soulful ballad, called "I’ve Got a Plan", is a song designed to slow down the nation and raise money for a good cause in the process.
"In this day in age, everyone is so stressed about the price of petrol, high taxes and the chance of recession that I just wanted to do something to try and chill out Britain," Greg said.
"If people slow down a bit and relax they can see the important things in life and that’s exactly what the song is about."
The Bramhall man admits he knew nothing about music when he first decided to write the song.
But now Greg plans to take on Simon Cowell, whose X–Factor winners have dominated the Christmas Number 1 spot since the show started in 2004.
"There’s so much money being pumped into the music industry that worthwhile charities could benefit from – I’d love to write another song and go up against Simon Cowell for the Christmas number 1.
"When I first had the idea I didn’t have a clue, but with the help of my guitar teacher Howard Buxton, we managed to put together something really good.
"The possibilities are endless," he said.
Greg’s slo–mo single is available to buy online for 99p from April 13 and all money goes directly to Get Kids Going.
You can keep up–to–date with Greg’s training for the marathon, sponsor him or buy the song online at www.justgiving.com/slow.
