PERHAPS THE 'ALLOWANCES' OUGHT TO BE DEFINED IN MORE PRECISE DETAILS...THEN THE COMMUNITY CAN ASK HOW SOME/ALL CAN BE JUSTIFIED (& PAID FOR BY LOCAL RATEPAYERS!!) FRANK ROWE (SENIOR EXBRIT/OLD STOCONIAN WEST AUSTRALIA

Gone are the days, when elected representatives, did it for nothing but a genuine desire to be of service to the community without receiving financial reward.

One usually gets the retort that expenses and allowances are set by an independent body, that does not mean that they have to be claimed!

Dont misunderstand me, I am not suggesting that they should not received incured expenses, but really these figues seem to me to be "out of this world"

I read a report recently, I think it was the "Express" that Stockport was one of the best authorities particularly as far as our road are concerned. Well I challenge any councillor to inspect the road surface on John St, Empress Ave and Church St, just to name a few in Marple, which in my opinion in parts is dangerous and also in my opinion reflects negligence on those responsible for its upkeep and on those watchdogs who watch the watchdogs.

Perhaps the "Express" could also tell us if the councillors, use public transport to attend meetings, especially bearing in mind the council's emphasis on being "green" and the advent of free public transport to the 60's and over. I appreciate that in some circumstances the use of a private car might be unavoidable, but not all the time.

Do councillors actually pay for meals when using SMBC Dining facilities at the town hall.

Do councillors and council staff receive free parking at the town hall, which is well served by public transport if they use cars and dont pay is it regarded as a taxable or non taxable allowance?
