Troy gets his paws on title

PETS win prizes and never more so than in the Stockport Express Pet Idol Competition.

And the creature with the most animal magic according to voting readers proved a BIG success.

Thirteen stone St Bernard Troy romped home with the lion’s share of votes, leaving Heaton Chapel owner Jane Littlewood like the cat that got the cream.

"I’m so surprised," she said."The photo just didn’t do him justice."

The gentle award-winning giant is four- years-old and was adopted by Jane when he was 10 months.

"In spite of several health issues the highlight of his day is to wait outside the local infant school to be seen and fussed over by his many young fans," added Jane, of Christleton Avenue.

"Troy will love all the attention that will come with being Stockport’s Pet Idol."

A case of lapping it up if ever there was.

Runners up in the competition were Heaton Norris Jack Russell Mylo and Hazel Grove puss Tai.

Troy will now go forward to represent Stockport in the Greater Manchester final.
