On the ball for charity

JIM GANNON took time out from training his current County side for a Wembley win to join former Stockport County stars in a charity tie against Manchester City legends.

County secured a place in League 1 after their win at the weekend, but ex-Edgeley Park and City of Manchester Stadium players managed a friendly 4-4 draw in the match at Disley Amalgamated Sports Club a few days earlier.

High Lane Veterans manager Kev Lofthouse, who organised the event, said: "Getting Jim Gannon to come down, even though he was training his team for the final at Wembley, was just amazing.

"This is the first time Stockport County has taken part in the event and all the players and their families really got involved.

"We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who supported these good causes and helped make this a fantastic day."

Funds raised will be shared between Inscape House, Christie Hospital and Lynne Faulds Wood Bowel Cancer Trust.
