Phonebox sex booth lowering the tone

ANGRY Bramhall residents have renewed calls to have a phonebox removed - claiming they are sick of seeing teenagers having sex in it.

They say the phonebox, on the corner of North Park Road and Rushton Drive, is used as a meeting point for youths who - as well as vandalising it - use the box to have sex.

One resident said: "There’s a lot of hanky panky that goes on in there.

"I’ve seen a girl and a lad go in and the next minute they’re at it. It has been happening for a while, and it’s different people. It doesn’t happen as much during the light nights, but as soon as it goes dark it will start up again."

Another resident added: "The issue was raised at a residents meeting and it got a bit of a laugh. But it’s not a laughing matter. It’s not right."

Their feelings were echoed by Helen Foster-Grime, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Bramhall North, who said: "I am very concerned about the distress suffered by local residents who shouldn’t have to put up with this type of behaviour right outside their homes.

"There are many families with young children and elderly residents living close by who have been upset by the activities in the phonebox for several years now. This is unacceptable.  I have called on BT to include this phonebox in a consultation with residents about closures to make sure their views are taken into account."

Residents claim the phone box has been a source of trouble for nearly six years, but their demands to have it removed have so far fallen on deaf ears. Cheadle MP Mark Hunter has also been involved but even he has failed to convince BT that the box should be removed.

In response, a spokeswoman for BT said: "Allegations of sexual behaviour going on in that particular box have been brought to our attention and all incidents of antisocial behaviour concerning BT kiosks are directed to the police.

"However, there is evidence that the phonebox is well-used and that a lot of calls are made from the phone, so we would not be looking to remove it at this time."

How classy. Is that why the glass appears to be smudged with white stuff?.....

I think there should be a CCTV camera facing the phone box, and stills (nothing explicit - just faces)from the video should be posted on a notice board nearby. It should at least put some of them off using it?
