AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after a rail worker was killed while working on railway tracks.
The man, from Stockport, died on a railway line near Rugby station in Warwickshire, said British Transport Police.
Paramedics attended but the man, who was 41 was pronounced dead at the scene.
Details of what happened have not yet been released.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "Officers from BTP are jointly investigating the circumstances surround- ing the incident with the Rail Accident Investigation Branch and HM Railway Inspectorate to establish the cause."
A spokesman for Network Rail said: "A rail worker employed by Leda Rail was fatally injured early while carrying out track works south of Rugby station.
"A full investigation has been launched into the incident.
"Network Rail's thoughts are with the family of the deceased."
