Our brave lads return from Iraq

STOCKPORT soldiers marched through the streets just weeks after returning from a tour of Iraq.
The newly formed 1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment – formerly known as the Cheshire Regiment – marched through Chester this weekend as part of the Lord Mayor’s Parade.
Huge crowds braved the wet weather on Saturday as more than 400 troops, recruited from Stockport and Cheshire marched to celebrate being granted freedom of the City.
Father-of-four Liam Kennedy, 29, of Bridgehall, said: "It was a bit cold, but a really proud moment to go on parade in front of all my family. My wife and kids came to see me and it was the first time I had seen some of my other family since we got back from Iraq in May."
Andy Raven, 25, of Hazel Grove, has been in the army for just over a year.
He said: "Being in Iraq was good, I had only just come out of training before we went so I was in quite a good position really. This was our first parade since we got back so it was great. I saw my new-born baby girl Olivia for the first time when I got back from Iraq. I’d missed out on a lot of my fiancé’s pregnancy, which was hard at times. It’s always difficult being away from your family."
