Man shot in chest and leg

25/ 9/2008

A MAN has undergone emergency surgery after being blasted by a gunman at a £700,000 house in a quiet suburban street.

He was shot in Parsonage Road, Heaton Moor, Stockport, at about 9.20pm on Wednesday night. One resident heard the man scream "I'm going to die, I'm going to die."

The man, believed to be in his late 30s, was blasted in the chest and leg. His condition was described as 'poorly'. Police would not confirm if he owned the property.

The house was bought a few months ago by a man said to be an ex-professional boxer. A large team of builders have been working round the clock renovating the house.

One female resident said: "I heard a couple of loud bangs then this horrendous screaming.

"I knew something dreadful had happened and went back inside."

Adrian, a 39-year-old neighbour who would only give his first name, said: "It's really quiet round here and you don't get any crime at all.

"You hear about things like this going on elsewherebut this is the last place where you would expect something like this to happen."

Detective Inspector Kevin Dolan said: "This investigation is at a very early stage but I would like to reassure residents in the community that we are determined to catch whoever is responsible."

Anyone with any information about the incident should contact Stockport CID on 0161 856 9840 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

- Police confirmed a 32-year-old man from East Didsbury had been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder. He has now been bailed.
