Woman, 89, dies in hit-and-run

AN 89-YEAR-OLD woman has died after a hit-and-run collision in Stockport.
Police were called to Turves Road in Heald Green, Shortly before 10am on Wednesday, following a report a car had collided with a pedestrian.
The woman was taken to Stepping Hill hospital where she later died.
The car involved in the collision did not stop at the scene. Witnesses who saw it have described it as being a blue car of a similar size to a Nissan Micra or Peugeot.
A 56-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving has been bailed until 11 December 2008.
Police are appealing for anyone with any information about the collision to call Stockport CID 0161 856 9740.
