Turf firm cleans up

A STOCKPORT company has pioneered artificial turf for the back garden.

FieldTech of Stockport have pioneered a fake grass system which looks and feels like grass but keeps you clean and won't graze your knees.

Previously, latex grass has been used for artificial sports surfaces but is now set for the home.

The company's first customers - the Clemmett family of Bolton - are delighted with their new £600 lawn.

''I first read about it in the paper and thought it would be perfect for our back yard, which then was just covered in concrete,'' mum Hazel told manchesteronline.

''We run our own business and don't have time for gardening.

''But we still wanted somewhere nice to sit out and have a barbecue and where our two sons could safely play.

''We did think about putting down paving, but that would not look as lush and the children would hurt themselves if they fell over.

''The NoMow lawn looks great and they can play out whatever the weather without me worrying about them getting muddy.

''Some of our friends said they thought it would look tacky when they heard we were getting a plastic lawn.

''But now they have seen it laid they have admitted it looks good and some of them are now thinking of getting one themselves.''

The grass costs £18 per square foot and is also fire proof.
