Child falls from fairground ride

HOWLS of delight during a Bonfire Night party turned to screams of horror for dozens of revellers who witnessed a child being flung from a fairground attraction.
The incident occurred at Stockport Cricket Club, Beech Road, in Cale Green, during a bonfire and firework display on Saturday evening shortly after 7.30pm.
A woman who was on the ride and witnessed the horrific incident, claimed the child was flung from the waltzer type ride and hit by the carriage behind as a safety door flew open.
She explained: "It was unbelievable, one minute everybody was enjoying themselves and the next moment the carriage in which the girl was travelling flew open and she was thrown out as the ride got up to speed.
"We thought our carriage had hit an object on the floor but we actually hit the child who was lying crumpled underneath in a pink coat.
"People started screaming and pointing to the child who was covered in blood."
According to the women the ride was stopped very quickly and an assistant pulled the child out from underneath the carriage.
The woman added: "The girl's father picked her up and rushed her off through the crowd with blood pouring from what looked like a head wound. After that there was complete pandemonium with people warning others not to use the ride."
A spokeswomen for the Health and Safety Executive said: "I can confirm that a seven-year-old girl was injured in the incident and that the HSE is investigating."
No members of Stockport Cricket Club were available to comment yesterday (Tues) as the Stockport Express went to press.
