Help make a child’s Christmas brighter with our Toy Appeal

WE have been delighted by the public's generous response to our 2005 Toy Appeal, jointly run with Stockport Social Services - but we still need more donations.

Bags bulging with presents have been arriving all week at our Wood Street office, where we are collecting BRAND NEW toys to give to some of Stockport's most underprivileged youngsters.

They guarantee a better Christmas for children dealt with by organisations such as Stockport Women's Centre, Sharecare and family centres, and those in foster care.

Another of the beneficiary organisations is Stockport Women's Aid, who deal with children affected by domestic violence.

Stockport Women's Aid put together packages of toys every Christmas time for children uprooted from home and living in refuges, or being helped on an outreach basis.

The organisation's spokeswoman, Sam Price, said: "It's really rough for families when they first come to refuges, and it's always the mum that makes the decision, although usually it's for the children's protection. They're leaving their schools and friends and the toys that are familiar to them. We see children of all ages and we're grateful for anything we are given."
