‘Despicable’ mugging of disabled teenager

31/ 5/2006

DETECTIVES have appealed for information after a disabled Stockport teenager was robbed on his way to school.

The 13 year-old, who suffers from Dyspraxia and has walking difficulties, was punched in the face and had his mobile phone and money stolen on May 10, at around 8am.

He had caught the 192 bus from Stockport Road, in the town centre, when another boy got on and sat near him.

The pair chatted and both left in Levenshulme where the alleged attacker followed his victim onto Albert Road and asked for 50p.

After handing over the money the 13 year-old walked on but was grabbed and punched - suffering a cut lip.

A passer by stopped and chased the attacker but lost sight of him as he ran behind the Palace nightclub.

Police describe the attacker as mixed race, aged 14-16, and 5ft 8ins tall. He may have two or three scars on his cheek and a flat nose, which looked like it had just been broken.

He wore black tracksuit bottoms, black trainers - possibly Nike, a navy hooded jacket with red stripes under each armpit and a baseball cap under the hood.

Det Insp Vanessa Jardine said: "This was a despicable crime in which the offender befriended a young, vulnerable boy before taking advantage of him.

"The victim has been extremely upset since the incident happened three weeks ago and it's crucial this offender is caught."

Anyone with information can contact police on 8564455 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
