Dad, 29, killed in road tragedy

THE family of a 29-year-old New Mills dad have been left devastated after he died in an horrific road accident.

Darren Moorehouse was killed driving to work on Thursday, when his car was in collision with a lorry in Marple.

Now his 19-month-old baby son spends his days blowing kisses at his picture and calling for his Daddy.

Darren's partner of eight years says the only way she can cope is finding strength for her son.

Heartbroken Samantha Neff said: "I can't even begin to find the words to describe our loss, how much Darren loved his son and how I could never have asked for a better partner.

"I'm not doing too well with it but I have to keep together for the sake of our son, Ewan. He's too young to really understand, but he looks at photographs of Darren, blows kisses to them and calls for him. All I can say is that Daddy's gone."

Darren, a street lighting engineer of Bakehurst Close, New Mills, died after his Ford Fiesta collided with an HGV on Strines Road at around 7am.

Police and ambulance crews attended but Darren was pronounced dead at the scene.

Samantha, 30, had been his partner since he proposed eight-and-a-half-years ago on bended knee on a beach in Turkey.

His parents John and Jean Moorehouse, from Offerton, described their son as a 'loving family man who doted on his son'.

"He worked hard for his family. If a job needed doing he would always be there to help," they said.

Jean added: "We had been hoping for a family Christmas - we just can't get our heads around this at the moment. He was such a wonderful person."

Darren was a huge Manchester City fan and will be sadly missed by regulars at football pub The Rising Sun in Hazel Grove. He was also a fan of boxer Ricky Hatton.

The former Marple Hall pupil was close to his siblings - sister, Andrea, and brother Michael. He was an indulgent uncle to Andrea's two children.

Employer Derek Delaney, of Liverpool-based Derand Lighting Ltd, spoke of an 'open, extremely popular member of staff and an excellent worker'.

"Darren was also a great friend. He'd been here for more than three years and we are a small, tight-knit workforce. Everyone has really felt it. Our thoughts are with his family."

Floral tributes tied to a lamppost near the accident spot carry messages from friends and relatives grieving an untimely loss.

The driver of the HGV involved in the collision was not injured but was left extremely shaken.

Strines Road was closed between Marple and New Mills for about seven hours while officers examined the area.

Police continue to investigate the accident and any witnesses are asked to contact officers on 856 6173.

We would like to thank everyone who knew Darren and expressed their sympathies for a young man who was dearly loved by all his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by us, his parents, brother, sister and his lovely partner Sam and beautiful son Ewan. Thank you all for your comments and kind thoughts. We also agree with Sam thet the picture of the car was unnecessary. xx
