Council to dump 60 bags on YOU!

THE MP for Stockport has branded a new waste collection scheme to be introduced across the borough as a "recipe for disaster".
Stockport Council plans to hand out a year's supply of bin bags to each household in one go, delivering 60 bags to each home from April 2007 to March 2008 - after claiming wheelie bins are too expensive.
Council chiefs will also force residents to leave their bags at the edge of their properties (EOP) to prevent injury to collection staff.
The plan has enraged Ann Coffey. She said: "I am absolutely despairing of Stockport Council over this. It's a recipe for disaster.
"For the scheme to be successful it relies on people acting responsibly and putting their rubbish in bags but people are going to run out of bags and they are going use the flimsier bags.
"The bags, which will be left on the EOP will then subject to being torn, or ripped open by animals or by weather leading to spillage.
"What the authority is proposing is a cheapskate solution which will lead to blocked alleyways and passages full of waste. If they want an EOP collection they should be providing a wheelie bin."
Meanwhile council bosses maintain it is an improvement which will help lead to a reduction in litter.
Councillor Hazel Lees, the executive member for environment and economy said: "We are still looking at the idea of wheelie bins but the current budget won't allow their introduction, which would cost £1 million.
"It's no different from what is happening now. I am sorry Ms Coffey doesn't like it but people complain about bags going missing. I think she is scaremongering and she is saying people are irresponsible, but we are doing this for the best of reasons."
Coun Lees said once residents had used up their supply of bags they would have to buy any more they needed.
She added: "The bags we are giving out are quality and it will help with the litter problem and hopefully it will make life better for residents."
Six neighbouring authorities use wheelie bins - Manchester, Trafford, Tameside, Oldham, Rochdale and Cheshire.
