STOCKPORT Council has been awarded a £40,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to enhance Heaton Moor Park.

The Council will use the project planning grant to secure improvements at the park on Elms Road, which will include evaluating the heritage of the park and providing community workshops.

The grant will also be used to develop a masterplan for the future of the park.

Councillor Shan Alexander, executive member for leisure, said: "We are delighted the HLF have awarded the park this grant.

"Heaton Moor Park can make a real difference to the lives of local people, contributing to biodiversity, recreation, learning and everyone's enjoyment of heritage.

"The planning grant will allow the council to move a step closer towards its goal of improving Heaton Moor Park for local residents."

John Yeomans, chair of The Friends of Heaton Moor Park, said: "We are delighted that the HLF has awarded the park this grant.

"Our role now is to work closely with the council to identify the most appropriate improvements and developments for the park, taking into account the park's heritage value and the views and wishes of all members of our community.

"Through consultation and planning we hope to ensure that our application imparts the full recognition of the value and importance of the park to our community."

The Friends of Heaton Moor Park are very keen to gather memories of the park from the past to the present day.

If you have a fond or favourite memory of the park, or a photograph of the park, the group can be contacted on 431 8250.
