THE magnificent readers of the Stockport Express have been
praised for supporting the campaign which resulted in last week's
government about-turn decision to put phase three of the
multi-million pound programme back on track.
Trams could soon be seen on the borough's streets after the
government announced a U-turn over July's decision to scrap the
project and committed £520m to the "Big Bang" extension.
TRANSPORT minister Tony McNulty was left in no doubt of the
strength of feeling over moves to stall the Phase Three Metrolink
bid when Stockport council leader Mark Hunter joined a top level
delegation to London.
