Cricketers celebrate

5/12/2007

ALMOST 300 players and officials packed into Edgeley Park’s Insider Suite on Friday night for the Peak Sports Derbyshire and Cheshire League’s annual presentation dinner.

The John Isherwood Cup [first division championship] will be shared over the next 12 months as the top two tied for the first time since 1960.

The captains of Compstall and Hayfield were both on hand and received rapturous ovations.

Romiley were delighted to receive the Terry Hill Memorial Cup for winning the second division title, while Hayfield picked up the Crossmoor Cup as third division kings.

Chapel players went home with the Rick Knott Cup after they won the 2007 fourth division championship.

Birch Vale won the first team Bissenden Cup knockout competition, while the Hawke Trophy for second teams went to Birch Vale.

Additional local winners were Compstall’s Mark Richards [first division bowling], Woodley’s Lee Goodwin [second division batting] and Romiley’s Paul Garner [second division bowling].

On a thoroughly entertaining evening, the guest speaker was former England fast bowler Gladstone Small, while comedian Mike Farrell was also in splendid form.
