Bramhall's derby win

4/ 6/2008

SATURDAY’S Division One action in the Right Move Abroad Cheshire County League saw first wins for Birkenhead Park and Cheadle Hulme and maiden defeats suffered by Warrington, Upton and Christleton.

Cheadle Hulme beat a strangely under-power Warrington at Grove Park after their visitors had struggled to post 121 for 9 in the full 55 overs allowance (Chris Kirby 28).

Spinners Ewan McCray (5-37) and Chris Maudsley (4-13) employed a stranglehold. Cheadle Hulme went on to post 114 for 2 in 27 overs, with Adam Wilde hitting 58 not out.

With many players still celebrating Stockport County’s Wembley promotion victory, Bramhall beat Cheadle by 22 runs at Church Lane.

Bramhall posted 178 (Andy Hall 58, Chris Brady 5-56, Dan Schuppan 4-45) and Cheadle reached 156, with the outstanding Schuppan smashing 55. Simon Wilkinson kept up his fine off-spinning spell with 5-70.

In Division Two, Tattenhall’s first defeat brought Stockport Georgians’ their first win since promotion, by an impressive five wickets margin at Flacca Field.

Tattenhall struggled to muster 130 for 9 in 55 overs (J Coxon 5-67, I Hussain 4-56), after which Georgians cantered home, with H Bailey hitting 41 not out.

Marple bowled Grappenhall out for 76 at Bowden Lane, with Aussie Dean Bertling taking 7-46 and Andy Greasley 3-25. Marple knocked off the runs for the loss of five batsmen.

Mobberley also completed a last-over victory, by three wickets at home to Bredbury St Mark’s, largely thanks to the quality of Pani Hussain (92 not out). The all-rounder earlier suffered a pre-match ankle injury which prevented him from bowling.

Bredbury had posted 208 (Rob Keyworth 30) after being only 59 for 2 at the half-way stage.

Bredbury have an interesting overseas player in Indian off-spin bowler Aditya Rai Mishra, who has played first-class cricket for Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy.

Aditya’s surprise delivery is one bowled from 25 yards which he says used to take a lot of wickets back home.
