Double semi success

ON SUNDAY, Compstall’s first and second teams both tasted sweet success in their respective cup semi-finals.

The first team entertained Tintwistle in the Bissenden Cup semi-final, and on winning the toss, visiting skipper Rick Harris elected to bat.

Harris opened the innings with Matthew Robinson and both started positively, until the eighth over when Compstall skipper Peter Richards had Harris LBW for 22.

The introduction of youngster Sam Markovic and Mark Richards into the attack had a dramatic effect, as the next 14 overs produced only 25 runs for the loss of a further two wickets.

Wickets fell on a regular basis as Compstall restricted Tintwistle to 133 all out, with Peter Richards and Stuart Bass both claiming three wickets.

Markovic and Mark Richards conceded only 13 and 11 runs respectively in their allotted overs.

Compstall cruised to victory with David Bailey again the dominant force as he scored 62, backed by Paul Needham (17), Stewart Jackson (32 not out) and Peter Richards (14no).

Compstall will now meet Hayfield in the final at Chapel CC on Sunday, August 17.

In their respective last four tie in the Hawke Trophy, Compstall’s second XI defeated Romiley.

Batting first, Compstall were restricted to 136 for 8 with Jonny Taylor scoring 30.

Mark Dale hit a brisk 21 and Chris Lees 25 not out.

In reply Romiley could only manage 122 for 8 with skipper Bradders claiming 4-19, backed by some excellent fielding.

Compstall will meet New Mills in the Hawke Trophy final on Sunday, August 10, at New Mills CC.

Compstall’s first-team travel to take on Old Glossop in the league on Saturday.
