Town bow out

3/10/2007

CHEADLE Town bowed out of the FA Cup following an unfortunate 2-1 defeat at Dinnington Town on Saturday.

The home side started well, but Cheadle battled back into the game and went in front just before half-time with a cracking goal. Andy McDonald crossed and Aaron Riley ran in to powerfully head the ball into the net.

The second half was a battle for supremacy, but Dinnington got themselves back on level terms when Andy Lynan fired home.

Both sides then went all out for a winner, and Cheadle full-back Ben Roberts was unlucky when his rasping shot thumped the crossbar.

However, with a 400-strong crowd roaring the home side on, they grabbed an 82nd minute winner when Lynan won a 50-50 ball against goalkeeper Peter Mellor and rolled the ball into the net.

Cheadle host Holker Old Boys on Saturday [3pm].
