THE only way is up now for Stockport’s UniBond League outfit Woodley Sports.

The Steelmen finally secured a much-needed three points on Saturday after four straight defeats, thanks to Mario Sergio-Daniel’s solitary strike in the second half at home to Lancaster City. It was a well-deserved win though, as Sports boss Chris Willcock acknowledged.

He said: “We played well on Saturday. We started brightly and ought to have been at least two goals up by half-time. I knew the win was coming, we have been overdue one.

“I was very confident going into Saturday’s game. I think we have turned things around now. The lads are looking sharper and we’re creating lots of chances.

“We can only go on from strength to strength now.”

Woodley again have no game during midweek, but on Saturday they travel to another fellow mid-table side in Skelmersdale United.

Willcock said: “Skem have been up and down a bit lately. They let five in and then scored five in their win at the weekend.

“I think Saturday’s game presents us with another great opportunity to pick up three points though.

“We’ll work hard on the training pitch this week in the build-up to weekend, but I feel confident that we can get another win which will help propel us a little closer to the play-off spots.

“The whole squad is fit and firing now. It’s onwards and upwards for us now.

“We’re buoyant after Saturday. Another two or three quick wins will see us right back in the mix.”

Meanwhile, Willcock hasn’t been able to sign any new players this week, but he did confirm that he is still pursuing a couple of names.
