BLACKPOOL Mechanics produced a classic smash and grab raid as they left Cheadle Town stunned by taking all three points in a 2-1 win.

Cheadle played some of their best football of the season and deservedly took the lead midway through the first half with a goal from Dean Martin.

However, a failure to take chances and some poor defending was Cheadle’s downfall in a second half they will want to forget.

Cheadle’s defeat on Saturday means they slip to 14th in Division Two of the Vodkat North West Counties League.

On Saturday Cheadle are at home to Ashton Town, kick-off 3pm.

Meanwhile, there was a timely boost for Woodley Sports on Saturday, as they cruised to a superb 4-0 victory at Garforth Town in the UniBond League division one north.

After a worrying run of results which had seen Chris Willcock’s side slip into the bottom four of the table, they needed a boost.

And, thanks to goals from Lee Henley, Neil Wright, Danny Stubberfield and an own goal, they got it.

Woodley moved up a place into 14th in the table courtesy of their thumping win.

There’s a chance for Woodley to make further significant progress this Saturday, as they travel to take on rock bottom strugglers Radcliffe Borough.

IT was a clean sheet of victories for the Steelmen last weekend. As well as the first team doing the Lambeth Grove club proud, the reserves hammered AFC Emley 5-1 and the youth team beat Daisy Hill 2-0.
