CHEADLE Town crashed out of the Vodkat League Division Two Cup on Saturday following an ill-tempered clash at Park Road.
The game ended controversially as Cheadle’s Barry Cotterill was sent off and manager Trevor Howard was ordered to the stand.
An off-the-ball incident close to a linesman sparked reaction from the Cheadle players, but the referee, who hadn’t seen the incident, took decisive action.
Earlier Dean Martin appeared to have been pushed over in the penalty area, but the referee waved play on and Martin’s reaction also brought a red card.
Chadderton had taken a 23rd minute lead and were under pressure in this feisty cup tie. They sealed victory in the 85th minute to move into the semi-finals, but Cheadle will feel aggrieved.
On Saturday Cheadle travel to Holker Old Boys in the league.
